High school athletes often take a passive approach to recruiting, thinking that simply because they are talented in their sport, college coaches will automatically seek them out. However, the reality is that most colleges do not have the available resources to do a country-wide search for student athletes, and as a result, coaches are not able to effectively sort through the millions of high school athletes playing their sport. Combined, these factors can limit the athlete's chances of finding the best program for him or her.
